REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – The Bandung City Government has revealed that there are 600 daycare centres operating in Bandung City. Hundreds of these daycare operators have different forms, ranging from foundations to community-based entities.

“Around nearly 600 (locations), yes, but in official forms. Some are official, in the form of foundations, and others are community-based,” said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan on Thursday (30/4/2026).

He explained that not all of these daycare centres are licensed. Farhan said that his administration will not immediately shut them down and will instead request that they adhere to the set standards.

“Not all of them are licensed. That is based on data from RW LACI, the result of enumeration by RW heads and LACI,” he said.

He stated that supervision must be carried out by community entities to ensure that no violence occurs against children entrusted to the daycare centres. His administration is also preparing a mayoral decree on daycare standardisation.

“We have already drafted the Kepwal since December because I noticed that daycares must have standardisation,” he said.

He mentioned that the authority to oversee daycares has so far been overlapping between the Disdagin, Disnaker, and others. However, the leading sector for daycare management is with the DP3A.

“Now it’s still taking a bit long in the analysis process by the legal department. On Monday, I will inquire and follow up,” he said.
