Bandung City Government Ready to Support 2026 West Java PWI Provincial Conference
The Bandung City Government is prepared to support the implementation of the 2026 West Java Provincial Conference of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), which is set to be held in Bandung this coming August.
This commitment emerged during an audience between the West Java PWI leadership and the Mayor of Bandung, Muhammad Farhan, at the Bandung City Pendopo on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. Farhan expressed the city government’s full support for the quinquennial agenda of the largest journalists’ organisation in West Java.
“Alhamdulillah, today we have discussed Bandung City’s preparations to host the West Java PWI Provincial Conference. It is planned to take place in August, likely during the second week,” said Farhan. He clarified that technical preparations would be coordinated with the organising committee and the Bandung City Communication and Informatics Department.
The West Java PWI Provincial Conference is the highest forum of the organisation at the provincial level, which will determine the leadership direction and organisational programmes for the next five years.
The Acting Chairman of PWI West Java, Ahmad Sukri, explained that the conference has three main agendas: the presentation of the management’s accountability report, the formulation of the organisation’s work programme, and the election of the next West Java PWI Chairman.
According to him, the conference is planned to take place on 12-13 August 2026 and is expected to be attended by thousands of PWI members from all regencies and cities across West Java.
“This is an event that occurs once every five years. The main agendas are electing a chairman, drafting work programmes, and presenting accountability reports. We are planning the implementation for 12-13 August. God willing, the venue will be the Horison Hotel, provided there are no changes. The number of participants expected is around 1,500 to 2,000 PWI members from across West Java,” said Ahmad.
He expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Bandung City Government, particularly from the Mayor of Bandung, who had expressed readiness to host the conference from the outset.
“We are very grateful for the support from the Bandung City Government. In fact, well in advance, the Mayor declared his support for the conference to be held in Bandung City. Hopefully, this activity will also contribute to the improvement of journalistic competence in Bandung and West Java,” he added.
In addition to the Provincial Conference, PWI West Java will hold a Journalist Competency Test (UKW) in Bandung on 24-25 June 2026 as part of efforts to enhance the professionalism of the press.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the West Java PWI Conference Committee, Roberto Purba, noted that the support from the Bandung City Government demonstrates the strong relationship between the media industry and the local government.
He stated that such synergy is vital to driving regional development while simultaneously improving the quality of healthy and responsible journalism.
“This is proof that the relationship between the media industry and the Bandung City Government is very well-established. Whatever we do ultimately aims for the welfare of the community. We also have the determination to continue improving the quality of journalism so that it can provide a positive contribution to the development of Bandung City,” he said.
Roberto noted that, administratively and organisationally, all preparations for the conference are proceeding according to plan. Currently, approximately 900 members hold voting rights and will participate in the election process for the next West Java PWI Chairman.
