Bandung City Government Ready to Support 2026 West Java PWI Provincial Conference
The Bandung City Government is ready to support the implementation of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) West Java 2026 Provincial Conference, which will be held in Bandung this August. This commitment emerged during an audience between PWI West Java officials and Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan at the Bandung Pendopo on Wednesday, 10 June 2026. Farhan expressed the city government’s full support for the quinquennial agenda of West Java’s largest journalist organisation. ‘Alhamdulillah, today we have discussed preparations for Bandung to host the PWI West Java Provincial Conference. It is planned for August, likely the second week,’ said Farhan. He explained that technical preparations would be coordinated with the committee and the Bandung Communication and Informatics Office. The PWI West Java Provincial Conference is the organisation’s highest forum at the provincial level, determining the leadership direction and programmes for the next five years. Acting Chair of PWI West Java, Ahmad Sukri, explained that the conference has three main agendas: the submission of the board’s accountability report, the formulation of the organisation’s work programme, and the election of the next PWI West Java Chair. According to him, the conference is scheduled for 12-13 August 2026 and will be attended by thousands of PWI members from all regencies and cities across West Java. ‘This is a quinquennial event. The main agendas are electing the chair, formulating the work programme, and delivering the accountability report. We are planning to hold it on 12-13 August. God willing, the venue will be Hotel Horison if there are no changes. Participants expected to attend are around 1,500 - 2,000 PWI members from across West Java,’ said Ahmad. He appreciated the support provided by the Bandung City Government, especially the Mayor who had declared his willingness to host the conference from the outset. ‘We are very grateful for the Bandung City Government’s support. In fact, long beforehand, the Mayor already declared support for the conference to be held in Bandung. Hopefully, this activity will also contribute to improving journalistic competence in Bandung City and West Java,’ he said. In addition to the conference, PWI West Java will hold a Journalist Competency Test in Bandung on 24-25 June 2026 as part of efforts to improve press professionalism. Meanwhile, Chair of the PWI West Java Conference Committee, Roberto Purba, assessed that the city government’s support demonstrates the strong relationship between the media industry and local government. According to him, this synergy is important to encourage regional development while improving the quality of healthy and responsible journalism. ‘This is proof that the relationship between the media industry and the Bandung City Government is very well established. Whatever we do ultimately aims for the welfare of the community. We also have the determination to continue improving journalistic quality so that it can make a positive contribution to the development of Bandung City,’ he stated. Roberto added that administratively and organisationally, all preparations for the conference are proceeding according to plan. Currently, approximately 900 members have voting rights and will participate in the election process for the Chair of PWI West Java.
