Bandung City Government Prepares Special Fleet to Transport Waste to Legok Nangka TPPAS

The Bandung City Government is preparing a special fleet to transport waste to the Legok Nangka Waste Processing and Final Disposal Site (TPPAS) located in Bandung Regency. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the city has committed to the project and signed an agreement to procure specialised transport vehicles. The city will also prepare a sorting facility, as waste must be separated before being sent to Legok Nangka using vehicles designed for the hilly terrain. Bandung is allocated a quota to send approximately 800 tonnes of waste per day to the facility, in accordance with a cooperation contract signed in 2018. The Mayor confirmed there are no changes to this allocation. The Legok Nangka TPPAS is projected to begin commercial operations in 2029 and is seen as a new milestone in regional waste management for West Java. The facility will process sorted waste using more environmentally friendly technology, reducing reliance on conventional landfill methods. Additionally, the Sarimukti landfill will be repurposed as an organic waste processing centre. Organic waste sorted from Bandung City will be sent to Sarimukti to be processed using various technologies. One proposed technology is the gasification of methane from organic waste piles, which has the potential to generate energy while reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the waste sector.
