The Bandung City Government is finalising various preparations ahead of the return to operations of Husein Sastranegara Airport. Supporting infrastructure is the main focus to ensure smooth airport operations whilst providing comfort for the public and flight service users. The city government is currently coordinating with various parties to accelerate the arrangement of facilities and infrastructure in the airport area. These preparations include road access improvements, public street lighting, and parking facility arrangements. ‘We are currently focusing on preparing the infrastructure and supporting facilities for Husein Airport, from road repairs and public street lighting to parking facilities. This is what we are continuously coordinating,’ said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan on Friday. Farhan stated that during the initial operational phase, scheduled from July to September 2026, the number of passengers is estimated to reach around 3,000 per day. This figure is considered ideal as a starting point for the reactivation of flight services. ‘We are operating on the assumption that the number of passengers in this first phase will be around 3,000 per day. So the burden is not too heavy, even though in its heyday Husein Airport was capable of serving 10,000 to 12,000 passengers daily,’ he explained. In addition to infrastructure readiness, the city government is also paying attention to flight operational preparedness. The hope is that by August 2026, Husein Airport will be able to serve jet aircraft such as the Boeing 737-500 and Airbus A320, in addition to smaller aircraft and private jets. ‘The hope is that by August there will be jet aircraft operating, such as the Boeing 737-500 or Airbus A320. That is the planned maximum capacity, whilst smaller aircraft and private jets can certainly continue to operate,’ said Farhan. Farhan believes that the reactivation of Husein Airport will have a positive impact on Bandung’s economic growth. The transportation and warehousing sector is projected to make a larger contribution. ‘We hope the transportation and warehousing sector can increase its contribution to Bandung’s economic growth. We need new economic drivers so that the city’s economy continues to grow,’ he said. He added that the presence of an active airport will strengthen Bandung’s competitiveness as an investment, business, and tourism destination. This also opens up wider opportunities for growth in the services sector. On this occasion, Farhan also expressed his appreciation to all parties who have collaborated in realising the reactivation of Husein Sastranegara Airport. ‘Thank you to the President, the Governor of West Java, the Indonesian Air Force, the Ministry of Transportation, and Angkasa Pura for their extraordinary commitment and support in reviving Husein Sastranegara Airport,’ he concluded.
