When the proposal was not approved, we will look for another way. This waste issue must be resolved; it cannot be postponed.

Bandung City (ANTARA) - The Bandung City Government is preparing various alternative solutions to address the waste problem after its request for an emergency waste status to the West Java Provincial Government was not approved.

Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan affirmed that waste management remains a priority and must continue even without emergency status.

“When the proposal was not approved, we will look for another way. This waste issue must be resolved; it cannot be postponed,” said Farhan in a statement received in Bandung on Thursday.

Farhan explained that Bandung City is currently the only city in West Java that does not have its own landfill.

“This dependence has an impact on the limitations of the Bandung City Government’s authority in managing and transporting waste, including regarding quotas and permits for disposing of residue,” said Farhan.

As a short-term solution, the Bandung City Government welcomes the support of the West Java Provincial Government, which plans to provide waste processing machines in each sub-district.

He said the Bandung City Government is also continuing to explore the possibility of having large-scale waste processing facilities or its own landfill as a long-term solution.

According to Farhan, the existence of an integrated waste processing facility remains an important need because the residue from the processing still requires adequate final disposal locations.

“We will continue to strive for the best. This is a joint effort that requires the collaboration of all parties,” said Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan.
