The Bandung City Government has completed the lowering of overhead cables to underground conduits on 42 roads up to August 2026 as part of its telecommunications infrastructure and urban aesthetics programme.

Head of the Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Division at the Bandung Communication and Informatics Agency, Indra Arief Budyana, is targeting the completion of overhead cable lowering on 85 roads throughout 2026.

“Forty-two roads are now complete. This week work continues on Jalan Karapitan. For the second phase, 45 roads are targeted for completion this week,” Indra said in Bandung on Tuesday.

Indra said the cable lowering programme began on 2 June 2026, starting from the Jalan Merdeka area and continuing to a number of other roads.

According to him, one of the challenges in implementing the programme is the readiness of telecommunications operators to move their cables once the infrastructure conduits have been prepared.

He said operators are given a maximum of three months after the cable management infrastructure is completed to relocate their cables to the underground conduits.

“Once the infrastructure is finished, the cables must come down within three months. So operators have three months to lower their cables. Because the start may not have been well timed, many are racing to catch up,” he said.
