Bandung City and West Java Province Collaborate to Revamp Teras Cihampelas
Bandung (ANTARA) - The Bandung city government and the West Java provincial government are collaborating to redevelop the Cihampelas Terrace area after the administrative process for the asset transfer entered the verification stage with the relevant agencies.
Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan said the documents for the transfer of the Cihampelas Terrace asset have been signed and are now awaiting verification from the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK), and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
“The consequence is collaboration. This is a pleasant consequence because the city government and the provincial government can work together on the area’s redevelopment,” said Farhan in Bandung on Thursday.
According to him, the asset transfer actually opens up opportunities for stronger collaboration between the Bandung city government and the West Java provincial government in redeveloping the Cihampelas Terrace area.
“Administratively, it is finished. I have already signed the letter, now it is just the administrative process between the asset agencies and verification,” he said.
Farhan revealed that West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has requested that the Cihampelas Terrace structure be dismantled first as an initial step in revitalising the area.
“The Governor still wants us to dismantle Cihampelas Terrace. Yes, we will do it,” he said.
He explained that the concept for the area’s redevelopment is still under discussion. However, the direction of the revitalisation will restore the function of public space by creating a more comfortable atmosphere for pedestrians.
“What is certain is that, firstly, Cihampelas Terrace will be dismantled to restore the comfort of being under the trees,” said Farhan.
Beyond the environmental aspect, the redevelopment will also take into account the continuity of economic activity for business owners along Cihampelas Street so that the area remains a centre for tourism and trade.
Farhan said the character of the Cihampelas area will likely adapt to shifting trends in society.
According to him, the culinary and hospitality sectors have great potential for continued development, even though the jeans trading trend is no longer what it once was.
“Optimising the businesses on both sides of the street is also a concern. Perhaps Cihampelas will no longer be synonymous with jeans sales because people’s trends have shifted. However, the culinary and hospitality sectors still have great potential for development,” he said.
Nevertheless, Farhan has not confirmed when the dismantling of Cihampelas Terrace will take place, as it is still awaiting the decision and readiness of the West Java provincial government.
