Bandung City and West Java Province Collaborate to Revamp Teras Cihampelas

The Bandung City Government, in collaboration with the West Java Provincial Government, is reorganising the Teras Cihampelas area after the administrative process for the asset transfer entered the verification stage by relevant agencies. Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan stated that the asset transfer document for Teras Cihampelas has been signed and is currently awaiting verification from the Finance and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP), the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK), and the Ministry of Home Affairs. “The consequence is collaboration. This is a pleasant consequence because the city government and the provincial government can work together to arrange the area,” Farhan said in Bandung on Thursday. According to him, the asset transfer actually opens up opportunities for stronger collaboration between the Bandung City Government and the West Java Provincial Government in reorganising the Teras Cihampelas area. “Administratively, it is complete. I have signed the letter, now it is just the administrative process between asset bodies and verification,” he said. Farhan revealed that West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi has requested that the Teras Cihampelas structure be dismantled first as an initial step in the area’s revitalisation. “The Governor still asks us to dismantle Teras Cihampelas. Yes, we will do it,” he said. He explained that the concept for the area’s arrangement is still under discussion. However, the direction of the revitalisation will restore the function of public space by presenting a more comfortable atmosphere for pedestrians. “What is certain is that the first step is to dismantle Teras Cihampelas to restore comfort under the trees,” Farhan said. In addition to environmental aspects, the reorganisation will also consider the sustainability of economic activities for businesses along Jalan Cihampelas so that the area remains a centre for tourism and trade. Farhan noted that the character of the Cihampelas area is likely to adapt to current societal trends. He said the culinary and hospitality sectors have great potential for development, even though the jeans trade trend is not what it used to be. “Optimising businesses on both sides of the road is also a concern. Perhaps Cihampelas will no longer be synonymous with jeans sales because public trends have shifted. However, the culinary and hospitality sectors still have great potential to be developed,” he said. Farhan has not yet confirmed the timing of the Teras Cihampelas demolition as it still awaits a decision and readiness from the West Java Provincial Government.
