Bandung-Cianjur route reopens after fallen tree cleared
Cianjur (ANTARA) - The Cianjur Resort Police in West Java have confirmed that the Bandung-Cianjur route, specifically in Sukasirna Village, Sukaluyu District, which was temporarily cut off due to a fallen tree, can now be traversed normally from both directions as of Wednesday.
Kanit Gakkum of the Cianjur Police Traffic Unit, Ipda Ahmad Prio Gunawan, stated on Wednesday that the fallen tree had caused a 4-kilometre tailback of vehicles from both directions heading to Cianjur and towards Bandung.
As a result, officers implemented several traffic management measures, including directing motorists to alternative routes. There were no fatalities in the incident, but four people were reported injured and four vehicles were crushed by the tree.
During the evacuation of the large tree that completely covered the road surface, police conducted traffic diversions for several tens of minutes, followed by a one-way alternating open-and-close system.
By Wednesday afternoon, traffic flow was able to pass normally from both directions. However, motorists are urged to remain cautious and alert as a joint task force comprising the Indonesian National Armed Forces, National Police, Fire Service, Regional Disaster Management Agency, Transportation Agency, and the Indonesian Red Cross in Cianjur is still clearing the remaining debris from the fallen tree.
“We ask motorists to exercise increased caution and vigilance when passing through because the joint team is still clearing the remaining debris from the fallen tree and evacuating a public transport vehicle that was crushed by the large tree,” he said.
“We are coordinating with the relevant agencies to prune and monitor trees prone to falling along the main Cianjur route, in order to minimise casualties among road users struck by falling branches or trees,” he added.
Observations towards midday showed that the flow of vehicles along the main Bandung-Cianjur route had returned to normal from both directions, although at the scene the joint task force was still completing the clean-up of scattered tree branches.
