Bandung Arsonist Strikes Again, Now Targeting Motorcycles and Laundry

A series of mysterious arson attacks continues to unsettle residents. After incidents in Andir, Astanaanyar, and Cimahi, the suspected perpetrator has now struck in the Bojongloa Kulon area of Bandung. The latest incident occurred in a residential area of Cijerah sub-district in the early hours of Sunday, 9 August 2026. CCTV footage showing the perpetrator’s movements has since gone viral on social media. According to reports from residents, the arsonist set fire to several objects, including a motorcycle, laundry hanging out to dry, and a car cover belonging to a local occupant. Bandung Kulon Police Chief Kompol Taufik confirmed that a report has been received and an intensive investigation is underway. ‘It is being followed up, the incident happened a few days ago,’ Taufik said on Wednesday, 12 August 2026. Taufik noted a strong resemblance between the suspect’s characteristics and a string of previous arson cases in other areas, including the burning of flags and buildings. ‘It is suspected to be linked to the one in Andir,’ he added. Police personnel remain on the ground to collect additional evidence and process the crime scene to uncover the motive behind this chain of attacks.
