Bandarlampung police foil truck smuggling attempt

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

At least 20 Mercedes Benz trucks belonging to
a pineapple canning company in Lampung were impounded by the
Bandar Lampung city police on Wednesday for possessing forged
documents.

City police sources confirmed on Thursday that the trucks were
shipped from Batam on Wednesday evening and were unloaded at the
Panjang port in Bandar Lampung when the authenticity of their
documents were doubted. They were destined for PT Great Giant
Pineapple Co in Way Lunik Panjang, Bandar Lampung.

Some of the trucks are impounded at the Bandar Lampung city
police while the rest are being kept at the Panjang customs and
excise office pending further clearance.

Customs authorities said the used trucks imported from
Singapore could not yet be released because their importer, CV
Prima Langgeng Dian Agung, did not have the necessary documents
that matched the physical features of the vehicles.

The Lampung police and customs agency several months ago also
impounded a number of luxury cars which were trying to be
smuggled into the province from Singapore.
