Bandar Lampung (ANTARA) - The Class I TPI Bandar Lampung Immigration Office has secured a foreign national (foreigner) from Singapore for allegedly violating immigration regulations by residing illegally in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province.

“A Singaporean foreigner was secured by us in Tanggamus because he is suspected of not having a residence permit or valid travel documents,” said the Head of the Intelligence and Enforcement Section of Bandar Lampung Immigration, Washono, in Bandar Lampung on Friday.

He said the presence of the foreigner was known to the Immigration office after receiving a report from the public, which was immediately followed up by sending officers to the location for examination.

“We received information from the public regarding the presence of a foreigner suspected of not having a residence permit or whose passport has expired. The team then conducted checks in the Pulau Panggung Subdistrict area, where the foreigner resides,” he said.

He stated that based on the examination results, the individual is indeed a Singaporean national, proven by the passport he possesses, but its validity has expired since 28 July 2025.

“Based on the foreigner’s confession, he entered Indonesia since June 2024 and frequently travelled back and forth between Singapore and Indonesia via Batam Port to meet his wife in Tanggamus,” he said.

“The foreigner claims to have reported his presence to the village apparatus because his wife’s parents in Tanggamus are village officials,” he added.

Washono said that while in Tanggamus, the foreigner claimed to have no fixed job and only farmed around his wife’s house.

“For this matter, we are still investigating, but so far, officers have not found any indications of other activities leading to business or other criminal acts,” he said.

Nevertheless, according to him, the foreigner has violated immigration regulations under Article 119 paragraph (1) of Law No. 6 of 2011 by being in Indonesian territory without valid travel documents and residence permits, with a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp500 million.

“Currently, the foreigner is undergoing examination and is placed in the Immigration detention room. The Immigration office has also coordinated with the embassy regarding the handling of this case,” he said.

He also said that to date, Bandar Lampung Immigration officers are still investigating the possibility of other violations before making a final decision.

“If no other criminal elements are found, the individual will be deported immediately and blacklisted to prevent re-entry into Indonesia,” he said.
