Bandar Lampung Blanketed by Volcanic Ash from Anak Krakatau Eruption

A number of areas in Lampung Province lying to the west of the mountain have begun to feel the effects of the eruption of Anak Krakatau.

The current situation in Bumi Waras subdistrict, Bandar Lampung, after Mount Anak Krakatau in the Sunda Strait erupted once again on Saturday (5 September 2026). The activity was monitored from the early hours of the morning, and the area was still experiencing the effects of the eruption as of Monday morning (7 September 2026).

Volcanic ash could still be seen after being carried by the wind into one of the rooms of a resort.

The eruption of Mount Anak Krakatau caused volcanic ash to be carried westwards by the wind. A number of areas in Lampung Province to the west of the mountain began to feel its effects from Saturday (5 September) evening.

The Kemiling area of Bandar Lampung has also been reported to be affected by the spread of ash. Bandar Lampung lies roughly 80 kilometres from Mount Anak Krakatau, which is located in South Lampung.

Volcanic ash was also experienced by residents of Natar subdistrict in South Lampung.

The spread of ash has not been confined to mainland Lampung. Sangiang Island, situated in the Sunda Strait, has also reportedly been hit by volcanic ash.

Residents have been advised to reduce outdoor activities whilst ashfall occurs. If outdoor activity cannot be avoided, personal protective equipment should be used to minimise exposure to volcanic ash.
