BANDA ACEH: Taufik Kiemas, the husband of President Megawati,
handed over educational assistance consisting of 200,000 exercise
books, 200,000 pens, 200,000 pencils, 62,850 elementary school
uniforms, 16,650 junior high school uniforms and 6,500 senior
high school uniforms. He also brought with him 20 tents, 1,000
plastic mats, 20 tons of rice, 20 tons of sugar and two
ambulances.

BIREUEN: Indonesian troops fired artillery rounds and moved
thousands of villagers from their homes during an attack on a
suspected separatist rebel base, a resident told Agence France-
Presse.

At least 10,000 Acehnese from nine villages in Juli district in
Bireuen sought refuge in a refugee camp at the Cot Gapu soccer
field in Bireuen regency, Antara reported.
