Banda Aceh Prosecutor's Office Executes Flogging for 10 Convicts Under Sharia Law
Banda Aceh — Public prosecutors from the Banda Aceh District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) have executed flogging sentences against 10 convicts under the Jinayat Code for violating Islamic Sharia law, based on rulings from the Sharia Court.
The implementation of the flogging took place in front of a large crowd at the main stage of Bustanussalatin Park, Banda Aceh, on Thursday.
The Head of the General Crimes Section of the Banda Aceh Prosecutor’s Office, Darma Mustika, stated that the convicts were unmarried couples.
“Four couples, or eight individuals, were flogged for the crime of ‘ikhtilat’ (unlawful intimacy), and one other couple for the crime of ‘zina’ (adultery). These flogging punishments are the execution of Sharia Court decisions that have reached permanent legal force,” he said.
Regarding the eight individuals punished for ‘ikhtilat’, Fathir Al-Fachri received 16 lashes, Inayatul Assyuka received 17 lashes, while Habibi and Widia Safira each received 19 lashes. Furthermore, Muhammad Ilham, Miftah, Rahmati, M Arief Ramadhanie, and Zuhra Yunisa were each sentenced to 21 lashes.
These eight convicts were proven guilty of violating Article 25, Paragraph (1) of the Aceh Qanun Number 12 of 2025, which amends the Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law.
As for the ‘zina’ convicts, Heri Saputra and Rifa Aulia were each sentenced to 100 lashes. The proof for the ‘zina’ charge was established after both parties confessed under oath, he added.
The couple was found guilty of violating Article 33, Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 37, Paragraph (1) and (2) of the Aceh Qanun Number 12 of 2025, amending the Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law.
“This flogging execution can serve as a lesson to the community to obey and comply with the Jinayat Code. The Prosecutor’s Office is committed to the enforcement of Islamic Sharia in Aceh,” said Darma Mustika.
