Banda Aceh Prison Inmates Receive Waisak Special Remission
Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - An inmate at Banda Aceh Class IIB Prison has received a sentence reduction for Waisak, a special remission for Buddhist prisoners.
Prison Head Hari Kurniawan in Aceh Besar on Sunday stated that the inmates receiving remission are Buddhist, with a one-month reduction in their sentences.
“Special Waisak remission is only for Buddhist inmates. This remission is granted based on the Decision of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
“Banda Aceh Prison is the only correctional facility in Aceh to have recipients of Waisak remission this year,” Hari Kurniawan added.
The prison head explained that the remission is a fulfilment of inmates’ rights who meet the required conditions under applicable regulations.
“Remission or sentence reduction is granted to inmates with good behaviour who actively participate in rehabilitation programmes during their incarceration,” he said.
According to Hari Kurniawan, the remission serves as evidence that rehabilitation programmes encourage inmates to improve themselves and become better individuals.
The remission also motivates inmates to maintain good behaviour, fully engage in rehabilitation programmes, and prepare to reintegrate into society as better and more responsible individuals.
“Through this special remission, Banda Aceh Prison reaffirms its commitment to optimally implementing rehabilitation efforts and ensuring inmates’ rights are upheld in accordance with applicable laws,” Hari Kurniawan stated.
