Jakarta (ANTARA) - Band Reruntuh hopes that more music venues with a comfortable atmosphere and the ability to host open events will be opened as Jakarta celebrates its 499th anniversary.

“So that events like this can be more lively and comfortable,” said Reruntuh vocalist and guitarist Eky Rizkani when met by ANTARA at the “Sunset di Kebun” event held at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Jakarta, on Saturday.

Eky said that the venues to be built could provide a space for visitors to enjoy music events in a more comfortable atmosphere, blending with nature and offering good air quality. He also expressed hope that the venues would be more pedestrian-friendly, making them easier to access.

The same sentiment was shared by Reruntuh keyboardist Nabila Hanina, who considered it would be better if venues offered musicians the option to hold outdoor events.

Reruntuh drummer Redha Arby also hoped that the venues to be built would provide more concept choices, so that musicians could be more enthusiastic about creating.

According to Reruntuh guitarist Nadif Firza, the government could take inspiration from the open spaces provided at TMII, which feature lush trees and a calm atmosphere. “It seems like it would be cool if the whole city of Jakarta had vibes like this, in every corner of Jakarta,” he said.

Jakarta will soon celebrate its 499th anniversary on 22 June 2026. The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is working to strengthen city connectivity, improve environmental quality, and provide mobility-supporting infrastructure towards Jakarta becoming a global city.

Previously, the Chair of the Jakarta 499th Anniversary Committee, Suharini Eliawati, said that through spatial planning, strengthening an environmentally conscious culture, and integrated infrastructure development, the government aims to present a city that is increasingly comfortable, modern, and competitive for all its residents. This year’s celebration serves as an important momentum to showcase concrete steps in Jakarta’s transformation as it approaches its fifth centenary.
