Bamsoet Urges Responsibility and Discipline Among Firearm Licence Holders
The DKI Jakarta PERIKHSA team has won the overall championship title at the fifth PERIKHSA Skills Competition in 2026, held at the Adisutjipto Shooting Range in the Special Region of Yogyakarta.
The DKI Jakarta team came out on top after securing three first-place titles and one third-place title across the four contested categories.
PERIKHSA Chairman General Bambang Soesatyo commended the staging of the event. According to him, the competition serves not only as a platform for honing technical abilities but also for building discipline and responsibility among holders of special permits for self-defence firearms.
“Victory is certainly a source of pride. However, far more important is the spirit of learning, discipline and responsibility demonstrated by all participants. The PERIKHSA Skills Competition is a means of building a culture of firearm use that is safe, professional, measured and always prioritises safety,” said Bamsoet in his statement on Sunday (19/7/2026).
He said that proficiency in using self-defence firearms must always go hand in hand with heightened legal awareness, ethics and safety.
According to him, continuous training is essential to ensure that technical skills are maintained whilst minimising the risks arising from negligence.
“Good marksmanship must be accompanied by the ability to make sound decisions, control one’s emotions, understand the rules of law and prioritise safety. The professionalism of a self-defence firearms permit holder is reflected in a disciplined attitude and maturity in every action,” he said.
He explained that ownership of self-defence firearms in Indonesia is subject to strict rules and cannot be done carelessly. The use of firearms is only permitted for self-defence purposes in accordance with applicable regulations.
“Ownership of self-defence firearms is not for showing off or displaying power. Rather, it is limited solely to self-defence interests, to protect oneself from threats that endanger one’s life,” he clarified.
Furthermore, he assessed that the development of PERIKHSA members also aligns with the values of state defence. According to him, state defence can be realised through a disciplined attitude, obedience to the law and the responsibility to maintain security in one’s surroundings.
“State defence begins with a disciplined character that follows the rules, cares for the safety of others and is ready to safeguard national unity. PERIKHSA members must set an example that the ability to use firearms is always accompanied by integrity, maturity and love for Indonesia,” he concluded.
