Bamsoet Urges Lemhannas Alumni to Safeguard National Stability Amid Global Turbulence
Lemhannas alumni must become the frontline guardians in maintaining national stability.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives Bambang Soesatyo has urged the Lemhannas Alumni Association (IKAL) to serve as the vanguard in safeguarding national stability amid increasingly complex global geopolitical dynamics.
Bambang Soesatyo, familiarly known as Bamsoet, stated that IKAL holds a strategic position due to its membership comprising figures from various sectors, ranging from government, military, business, to academia.
“Lemhannas alumni must become the frontline guardians in maintaining national stability,” he said while attending the IKAL Lemhannas halal bihalal event in Jakarta on Sunday.
He assessed that the alumni possess strategic thinking and extensive networks to ensure that national policies can operate effectively amid global dynamics.
The 20th Speaker of the House of Representatives cited the conflict in the Middle East, which has triggered disruptions to global energy routes and heightened global uncertainty.
Quoting the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) report from April 2024, he noted that geopolitical conflicts have driven up commodity prices and slowed global economic growth.
“The world is currently facing an unstable situation. Geopolitical conflicts are evolving into multidimensional crises that affect energy, food, economy, and cybersecurity,” he said.
He added that this condition impacts energy prices, inflation, and people’s purchasing power, including in Indonesia.
He encouraged IKAL Lemhannas to be more active in strengthening national literacy and maintaining social cohesion amid potential polarisation.
“If not managed well, global pressures can trigger domestic instability. This is where the role of IKAL Lemhannas as a national unifier becomes crucial,” he said.
Furthermore, the Deputy General Chairman/Head of the State Defence Agency of FKPPI reminded of the importance of adapting to the times, particularly in facing digital transformation and cyber threats.
“In the future, IKAL Lemhannas must become a centre of adaptive, responsive, and solution-oriented strategic thinking to make a real contribution to safeguarding national stability,” said Bamsoet.
