Bamsoet Backs Malaysian Ammunition Investment to Strengthen Indonesia's Defence

Indonesian House of Representatives member and Chairman of the Indonesian Special Firearms Licence Owners Association (PERIKHSA), Bambang Soesatyo (Bamsoet), has endorsed a cooperation plan between Malaysian company Maruss SDN BHD, Jangkar Sinergi Group, and PERIKHSA to supply ammunition in accordance with applicable regulations for training weapons, self-defence firearms, and military use in Indonesia. The partnership is a strategic step to strengthen national defence logistics, increase technology transfer, open investment opportunities, and expand defence industry collaboration in the Southeast Asian region. Maruss is a licensed ammunition manufacturer established in 2018 with three main business lines: ammunition manufacturing, weapon modernisation, and defence equipment procurement. Bamsoet made the remarks while receiving Maruss SDN BHD CEO Syafiq bin Mohd Razi at the Black Stone Lounge in Jakarta. “A guaranteed ammunition supply is crucial to support the training of law enforcement officers, self-defence needs regulated by law, and national defence readiness. More importantly, this collaboration must be directed towards technology transfer, enhancing domestic industrial capabilities, and developing national human resources,” Bamsoet said in a statement on Saturday. He explained that global geopolitical dynamics in recent years have prompted many countries to strengthen the resilience of their domestic defence industries. Conflicts in various regions have put pressure on military equipment supply chains, including ammunition, leading to price increases and supply constraints. These conditions have accelerated the development of domestic defence industries through mutually beneficial international collaborations. “Indonesia must seize this momentum to accelerate the development of its national defence industry. Cross-border cooperation must be directed to generate added value for Indonesia through improved manufacturing capabilities, research development, international certification, and future export opportunities for defence products,” Bamsoet added. He noted that domestic ammunition demand continues to rise along with increased training activities for security forces, shooting sports, education, and national defence operational requirements. The development of shooting sports in Indonesia is also showing a positive trend. Various national and international championships held annually are driving the need for quality ammunition with stable supply and competitive prices. “The existence of a strong supporting industry will help maintain the sustainability of shooting sports activities, the training needs of law enforcement officers, special firearms licence holders for self-defence, and national defence readiness. All of this must remain under government supervision and comply with applicable legal provisions,” he concluded.
