Bambang Setiawan, Victim of Pejompongan Riots, Intended to Launch Teh Solo Business

Before his death during the demonstration riots in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta, 60-year-old Bambang Setiawan was preparing a new business to increase his family’s income.

Bambang planned to open a ‘Teh Solo’ cold beverage stall. He had already purchased several pieces of equipment. However, the plan was thwarted after Bambang became one of the victims of the riots that occurred in the Pejompongan area on the night of 27 August 2026.

This was revealed by Bambang’s son, Wisnu (35), during an interview in the Pejompongan Raya area, Central Jakarta, on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

Wisnu stated that he first learned of the plan from his mother, Sudarsi (56). It was known that Bambang was experiencing communication difficulties because his mobile phone was broken.

“I received the news about the Teh Solo business plan from my mother, because as we know, my father’s mobile phone was broken,” Wisnt said.

According to Wisnu, Bambang had prepared the business quite seriously. In addition to the funds he had saved, several items needed for the stall had already been purchased.

“My father had plans for that Friday, the date of his death on the 28th (August 2026); he wanted to open a business alongside the glass shop. He had likely saved enough money and bought several items; even the ice thermoses were purchased, only the sealing machine was left,” he explained.

The plan to open the beverage business emerged after Bambang’s existing glass shop had been facing difficult times. Wisnu noted that over the last three months, business had been quiet and had yielded almost no income.

Bambang subsequently attempted to find alternative sources of income by selling cold drinks in front of his mirror shop.

“He planned to open a Teh Solo stall, selling drinks like coffee, tea, or whatever. Given his experience over the last three months of low income, he was trying to find other alternatives and solutions,” said Wisnu.

For Bambang and his wife, the beverage business was seen as having potential because it targeted the daily needs of the community. Preparations were already underway, including discussions with Wisnu, who works in the beverage industry.
