Bambang Patijaya Appreciates National Gas Supply Assurance, Urges HGBT Continuation for Industrial Competitiveness
House of Representatives Commission XII Chairman from the Golkar Party, Bambang Patijaya, has expressed appreciation for Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia’s statement confirming that the national gas supply is secure. According to him, certainty of gas supply is a critical foundation in maintaining the sustainability of the national industrial sector and supporting economic growth.
Bambang assessed that the main challenge requiring attention at present is not only the availability of gas but also how to ensure gas prices remain competitive for domestic industry. Given that natural gas is an important production cost component for the fertiliser, petrochemical, steel, ceramic, glass, food and beverage, and various other manufacturing industries, gas pricing policy has a direct influence on national industrial competitiveness.
“The government’s statement that the national gas supply is in a safe condition is certainly good news for the business world. However, what is no less important is ensuring that this gas can be accessed by industry at a competitive price so that the national manufacturing sector remains competitive amidst global competition,” Bambang said in a written statement on Wednesday, 10 June 2026.
According to him, the Certain Natural Gas Price (HGBT) programme that has been provided to strategic industrial sectors needs to be continuously maintained. This policy has proven to be an important instrument in supporting production cost efficiency, maintaining industrial utilisation, and strengthening the competitiveness of national products in both domestic and export markets.
Bambang emphasised that the success of energy sector development is not solely measured by increased production and supply availability, but also by the extent to which that energy can support industrial growth, create jobs, and provide added value for the national economy.
“We need to maintain a balance between investment sustainability in the upstream oil and gas sector and the needs of domestic industry. Therefore, the national gas policy must be able to guarantee sufficient supply while simultaneously supporting competitive prices for strategic sectors receiving HGBT,” he said.
He also encouraged the government to continue accelerating the development of new gas fields, the construction of national gas infrastructure, and the optimisation of gas utilisation for domestic needs to strengthen national energy security and industrial resilience.
