Bambang, Fauzan contest YLBHI post
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) chairman Bambang Widjojanto will contest the next chairmanship with his secretary, Achmad Fauzan, the foundation said in a statement.
The statement said an election committee established by the foundation's board of trustees nominated seven candidates but five of them rejected their nominations.
The 1996/1997 period of the YLBHI executive board ends Sept. 30, after being extended for almost two months. The period should have ended Aug. 5.
The other five candidates were director of the Legal Aid Institute-Indonesian Women Association for Justice Nursjahbani Katjasungkana, former director of the Surabaya Legal Aid Institute Muchammad Zaidun, former director of the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute Luhut M.P. Pangaribuan, YLBHI's board of trustees member Toety Heraty Noerhadi and director of the Bandung Legal Aid Institute Haneda Sri Lastoto.
The election committee is interviewing the two candidates on their agendas for the foundation's strategies and programs for the next four years, the statement said.
Bambang had earlier said he would reject chairmanship nomination because of family commitments.
Before he was elected chairman in March last year, Bambang chaired the Jayapura Legal Aid Institute in Irian Jaya.
Fauzan was director of the YLBHI's Manado chapter in North Sulawesi, before becoming the foundation's secretary. (05)
