Bama-Pagelaran Road Damaged Less Than a Year After Construction, Provincial Government Says It Has Been Repaired
The Banten Provincial Government has stated that it assists in building village roads through the Bangun Jalan Desa Sejahtera (Bang Andra) programme, but responsibility for repairs and maintenance rests with district or city governments.
Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Department, Arlan Marzan, said he had received reports that the Bama-Pagelaran road in Pandeglang Regency had sustained damage less than a year after being built under the Bang Andra programme. He confirmed the road has since been repaired.
‘That was last year’s project, which used a single layer of hotmix. The road had some damage, but it has been repaired by the contractor. The contractor is responsible, but only until 15 August,’ Arlan said on Monday (20/7/2026).
According to Arlan, once the contractor’s maintenance period ends, the road will be handed over to the district or city government. He stressed that the province can only assist with construction.
‘The authority that can be taken over or assisted by the province is only the construction. Maintenance cannot be taken over, so it must be carried out directly by the Pandeglang Regency government, which holds the authority,’ he said.
Arlan has urged district and city governments, as well as village or sub-district officials, to maintain the roads that have been built. He also cautioned against allowing overloaded trucks to damage the newly improved roads.
‘One of the causes of damage is vehicles. The road used to be in poor condition, and now it is good, so large vehicles start using it,’ he said.
He has also asked village officials to construct or maintain drainage channels. Arlan noted that standing water on the road surface can quickly cause deterioration.
‘We have socialised this with village heads and the Pandeglang Regency government, that there must be tidying up along the shoulders to ensure water does not pool, along with drainage. The shoulders and drainage must be maintained by them. We must ensure that the roads we build do not become water channels,’ he said.
