The Jakarta City Hall-Regional Parliament Journalists’ Coordination (Balkoters) slaughtered six animals for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah and distributed the meat to local residents and members.

“Eid al-Adha teaches sincerity, togetherness, and care for others. These are the values we aim to promote through this year’s Balkoters Qurban activity,” said Balkoters chairman Sammy Edward Wattimena in a statement on Thursday.

He added that the event, themed “Spread Goodness, Increase Care”, serves not only as an act of worship but also as an opportunity to strengthen solidarity and social compassion within the City Hall and Jakarta Regional Parliament community.

The qurban activity is expected to be held annually to foster stronger ties between Balkoters members, local residents, and government partners in the Jakarta Provincial Government.

“Through this initiative, we aim to strengthen social bonds, not only among Balkoters members but also with the community and all our partners at the City Hall and Jakarta Regional Parliament,” he said.

The group slaughtered two cows and four goats, with the meat distributed to 62 Balkoters members, security personnel at the City Hall-Regional Parliament, and nearby residents.

Sammy noted that the spirit of sharing during Eid al-Adha also underscores the importance of collaboration and unity in building social life in the capital.

He stressed that positive relations between the press and local government must be maintained through initiatives that directly benefit the public.

“Balkoters aims to be more than a journalists’ association; it is part of the community with social concern. We believe collaboration with the Jakarta Provincial Government can generate positive energy for the surrounding environment,” he said.

Sammy explained that while Balkoters has previously held qurban activities, in past years they only distributed meat portions to members. This year, they fully participated in the entire process from slaughter to distribution to members, security staff, and local residents.

“We are grateful to now be able to handle the entire process, from slaughtering to distributing the sacrificial meat,” he said.

According to Sammy, this shift represents positive progress and reflects growing unity within Balkoters.

Direct involvement in the slaughter and distribution process, he said, deepens the understanding of Eid al-Adha’s values, particularly mutual assistance and social care.

“This is not just about distributing meat; it’s about building togetherness and compassion. Balkoters members can directly participate, making the spirit of sharing truly felt,” he added.
