Bali's Economy Grows, Infrastructure Accelerates, Provincial Government Wins Award

The Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov) has received the ‘Commendable Economic Programme’ award in the category of Driver of Economic and Infrastructure Acceleration at the detikBali-Nusra Awards 2026. The award was received by the Head of the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) of Bali Province, Ketut Wica, on behalf of the Governor at the Trans Resort Bali on Friday (3/7/2026). The accolade recognises the provincial government’s achievements in driving economic growth while accelerating strategic infrastructure development on the Island of the Gods. Various macroeconomic indicators show a positive trend amid efforts to transform the local economy. Bali’s economy grew by 5.82 percent, surpassing the national average, while the poverty rate fell to 3.42 percent, the lowest in Indonesia, and the open unemployment rate dropped to 1.45 percent. The Gini ratio also improved to 0.333. The Provincial Government continues to push for economic transformation beyond the tourism sector, strengthening agriculture, fisheries, industry, MSMEs, and the creative economy. Foreign tourist arrivals contributed to a rise in the foreign tourist levy (PWA) revenue to IDR 369 billion annually. The administration is also accelerating the implementation of organic farming systems and downstreaming the fisheries sector to increase the added value of local products. On the infrastructure front, the construction of the Singaraja-Mengwitani shortcut is targeted for completion by 2027. Other priority projects include the Jimbaran underpass, the Nusa Ceningan-Lembongan bridge, and the Unda reservoir. Public transport services are being expanded with the reactivation of the Trans Metro Dewata bus, planned to reach Singaraja. Environmental efforts include the full closure of the Suwung landfill by 1 August 2026, the development of a waste-to-energy facility with a capacity of 1,200 tonnes per day, and rooftop solar power plants generating up to 250 megawatts. The province also ranks second nationally in electric vehicle adoption. Additionally, the Turyapada Tower in Buleleng is expected to be completed in 2026 and operational by 2027 to support digital transformation and tourism.
