Balinese poet to go Dutch
DENPASAR, Bali: Balinese poet Warih Wisatsana is scheduled to
perform in the winter festival Nachten, scheduled to last from
February through mid-March in The Hague, the Netherlands.
Warih, 35, told Antara Tuesday that he would recite his poems
which have been translated into Dutch by A. Teeuw.
Warih is going to the Netherlands on the invitation of the
Netherlands' Cultural Ministry after being shortlisted by the
festival's organizing committee last year.
He said a Jakarta poet, Rahmayani, would also attend the same
festival where poets from all over the world are to gather.
Warih started to write poems when he was in high school in
Semarang, Central Java. Several Balinese poets have recognized
Warih as among the best on the island.
