Balinese Migrant Worker Detained in the US, Suspected of Involvement in Sexual Assault Case
An Indonesian Migrant Worker (PMI) with the initials Putu JW has reportedly been arrested by authorities in Florida, United States. The man from Jembrana, Bali, is suspected of involvement in a sexual assault case that has become viral on social media.
The Head of the Manpower and Industry Office of Jembrana, Kadek Mirah Ananta Sukma Dewi, confirmed the information regarding a resident of Jembrana caught in a legal case in the US. The Jembrana Regency Government is currently monitoring the developments of the case.
“There is indeed information from the media about the incident in the Florida area. But we have not yet communicated with the PMI in question, and the family has also not been able to communicate. We are still coordinating with the Head of BP3MI Bali,” said Mirah, quoted by detikBali on Friday (10/4/2026).
Mirah explained that her side is continuously monitoring the case developments through the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in the US. So far, she claims to only be following the case’s progress through reports in local Florida media.
“For the time being, we cannot provide a detailed chronology,” she added.
The details of the matter ensnaring Putu JW in Florida are not yet known. The Jembrana Regency Government is still coordinating with BP2MI and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
