Balinese celebrate 'Kuningan'

DENPASAR, Bali: Hindus in Bali commemorated Kuningan on Saturday, when they celebrated the victory of Dharma (bringer of Good Deeds) against Adharma (bringer of Bad Deeds).

In the festivities Hindus presented sesajen (flowers or food offered to the gods) at pura (temples) or merajan (small temples at dwelling places).

Many Hindus in Denpasar went to Sakenan Temple, a large temple some 15 kilometers south of Bali, after performing rituals at merajan.

Wearing traditional Bali costume, thousands of Balinese arrived at the temple in Serangan subdistrict.

Some foreign tourists, also wearing traditional Bali costume, could be seen mixing with Hindus observing the ritual, which is performed once every 210 days.

Most streets here were deserted as local residents were celebrating Kuningan. -- Antara
