Bali Workers Alliance Opens THR and BHR Complaint Post, Online Drivers May Report
LBH Bali’s Labour Issues Legal Aid Advocate for Labour Issues, I Gede Andi Winaba said the post also highlights problems faced by workers in the informal sector, including online transportation drivers. He noted that so far the status of online motorcycle taxi drivers remains unclear within the employment system. ‘Until now the government has not provided clear clarity. In terms of status, they are described as partners. But in practice they work like workers, taking orders and earning wages,’ Andi said in a statement on Friday, 6 March 2026. Andi explained that this condition means app-based drivers do not enjoy the same rights as formal workers, including THR. In 2025, LBH Bali recorded 136 complaints from informal sector workers related to labour issues, including THR and working conditions. Now, they are expanding advocacy to workers in app-based transportation, especially food delivery drivers. This followed several drivers raising concerns to the union about working conditions, including THR and worker protection. ‘We are expanding advocacy to ojol workers, particularly food drivers. Some ojol friends have started reporting to the union and we are discussing with them,’ Andi added. Excel, the representative of Bali Alliance for Workers’ Rights, said the current efforts are still at the stage of compiling reports and aspirations from app-based drivers. According to him, further steps such as hearings with platform companies will depend on the aspirations gathered from the drivers. ‘We are still in the stage of compiling reports from our ojol friends first. Because those most interested in improving working conditions are them,’ Excel said. The complaint post will be open until 27 March. In addition to receiving complaints, the post will also collect case data and push for settlement through mediation if worker rights are violated.
