The Danantara Investment Management body (BPI Danantara) has inaugurated the construction of a Waste-to-Energy Processing Facility (PSEL) in Greater Denpasar, Bali. Pandu Patria Sjahrir, Chief Executive Officer of PT Danantara Investment Management, stated that the facility is estimated to process more than 500,000 tonnes of waste per year. “That equates to over 40 per cent of Bali’s waste generation being processed,” he said during the groundbreaking ceremony in Denpasar on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. The PSEL is also projected to reduce waste emissions from final disposal sites by up to 80 per cent, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by an estimated 640,000 tonnes annually. Furthermore, the facility will generate green energy sufficient to supply the needs of around 100,000 homes in Bali. The asset, valued at Rp 3 trillion, is expected to create 1,200 jobs and reduce the need for final processing landfill space by approximately 80 per cent. “Let us work together to realise a clean, safe, healthy, and beautiful Indonesia, starting from Bali,” Pandu remarked. The facility, designated a National Strategic Project, will be located in Pedungan Village, South Denpasar District, Bali. The consortium responsible for its management is Nusantara Bali New Energy. The PSEL’s operations will adhere to the emission standards of the European Industrial Emissions Directive. Following construction, the facility is expected to be operational in the first half of 2028.
