Bali Land Owners Unprepared to Surrender Land Needed for Simpang Siur Underpass Project.
The Regent of Badung A.A. Gde Agung has admitted to the Bali Post that the planned underpass at the Simpang Siur intersection in Kuta is being held up by disagreements with local land owners refusing to surrender the property parcels needed for the construction to commence.
Agung has pledged to become directly involved in negotiations with landowners, urging them to accept purchase offers made by the regional government.
The construction of the underpass project is being financed by national funds with the responsibility to negotiate the acquisition of land for the project resting with the Badung regency.
Agung says the amount of compensation to be paid to land owners is, in fact, a matter that rests with the Central government.
Benoa – Nusa Dua Toll Road
The Badung regent said a separate plan to construct a toll-road connecting Benoa and Nusa Dua must confront potential violations of Bali zoning law (RTRW). The proposed road to be financed by 5 State-owned companies would violate rules protecting mangrove forest areas and requires a green light from the Minister of Forestry.
