The Bali Transport Agency (Dishub Bali) is conducting a traffic engineering trial to ease congestion at two specific locations from 2 to 15 June 2026. These locations include the Hang Tuah-Danau Beratan intersection and the Hang Tuah-Sedap Malam intersection in Sanur, Denpasar.

“Based on the results of monitoring and technical field studies, a conflict in vehicle movement occurs at the Hang Tuah-Danau Beratan intersection due to vehicles turning right from West Hang Tuah Road towards Danau Beratan Road, as well as from Danau Beratan Road towards the east,” stated the Head of the Bali Transport Agency, I Kade Mudarta, on Monday (2/6/2026).

Mudarta explained that these conditions frequently cause vehicle queues and slowed traffic flow on Hang Tuah Road, Denpasar. In certain conditions, the congestion has been known to extend as far as the Bypass Ngurah Rai section in Sanur.

Meanwhile, at the Hang Tuah-Sedap Malam intersection, significant vehicle queues are also occurring due to sub-optimal traffic light phase settings. Vehicles travelling straight and those turning right from both the east and west of Hang Tuah Road are currently operating within the same phase.

“Furthermore, the limited number of lanes on the approach to Hang Tuah Road causes right-turning vehicles to obstruct straight-moving traffic, thereby triggering queues at the intersection,” he added.

Mudarta hopes that the traffic engineering trial will reduce the vehicle conflicts that have historically caused traffic slowdowns on these roads. For the Hang Tuah-Sedap Malam intersection, adjustments to traffic light settings will be implemented alongside an increase in the number of lanes to three.

“This trial is evaluative in nature, and periodic monitoring of field traffic conditions will be conducted to serve as a basis for refining future traffic management,” he concluded.
