Bali to host the second Fashion Week in May
DENPASAR, Bali (JP): Bali will host the second Fashion Week in Sanur next May to attract fashion designers and buyers to the island.
Mardiana Ika, the organizer of the event, said during a meeting with Bali Vice Governor I Gusti Bagus Alit Putra that the event was a follow-up to the first Bali Fashion Week last year.
"We suffered significant financial losses during the first Fashion Week last year, but Bali's fashion industry got wide coverage from both the local and international media," said Ika, herself a fashion designer.
Ika said last year's event, which was attended by garment producers, designers, cargo companies and other companies related to the fashion industry, was a good start.
"A lot of garment factories moved their businesses from Jakarta to Bali," she said, adding that the event resulted in the creation of numerous job opportunities for locals.
Bali Fashion Week, she added, was aimed at providing a forum for those involved in the local fashion industry and buyers to meet and establish long-term business relationships, and was not merely a fashion show.
She also said the event was aimed at mapping out the future development of fashion designs and the fashion industry, and establishing new trends.
