Bali to host ACFIF conference
JAKARTA: The Asia Chemical Fiber Industry Federation (ACFIF) is to hold from Sept. 8 to Sept. 11 its fifth biannual conference in Nusa Dua, Bali, according to a press release.
The conference, which will be opened by Minister of Industry and Trade Rini M.S. Soewandi, is expected to draw about 160 participants coming from the 10 member countries of the ACFIF: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.
The Indonesian Synthetic Fiber Makers Association (APSYFI), the host of the conference, said the meet was crucial, as the quota system on the global textile trade would be lifted on Jan. 1, 2005.
The APSYFI said the conference's agenda included discussions on current issues, including how ACFIF members could compete fairly after the abolition of the quota system. -- JP
