Bali raises clove output
DENPASAR (Antara): Bali, Maluku and North Sulawesi will
continue to grow cloves because their produce have met
international quality standards.
"Bali's cloves have a specific aroma and are thus suitable for
cigarettes," Bali Governor Ida Bagus Oka said Tuesday before
thousands of clove growers in Tista village, some 120 kilometers
northwest of here.
He said the president has issued a decree that cloves will
continue to be grown in the three provinces while those in other
provinces will be replaced with other crops.
This, he said, shows that cloves from Bali have good
prospects.
Bali, which has 29,000 hectares of clove plantations, has an
annual production of 6,000 tons, he said, adding that in view of
the presidential decree, Bali could become a clove development
center in the future.
