Bali Provincial Government Awaits Central Guidance on Electric Vehicle Tax
The Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov Bali) is still reviewing the implementation of taxes on electric vehicles. Pemprov Bali is now awaiting guidance from the central government regarding the amount of tax on electric vehicles.
“It is still being discussed, including a national agreement so that there is not too much disparity,” said the Head of the Bali Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) I Dewa Tagel Wirasa when met at the Bapenda Bali Office, Denpasar, on Monday (20/4/2026).
Tagel assured that Bali is ready to implement the electric vehicle tax. According to him, the implementation of the tax will be carried out simultaneously nationwide.
“Still waiting for central guidance,” Tagel said briefly.
Previously, the Bali Transportation Agency (Dishub) recorded 14,301 electric vehicles on the Island of the Gods that have the potential to be subject to tax. Based on data from 2020 to April 2026, the number of electric motorcycles recorded is 9,790 units and cars 4,511 units.
“The total is 14,301, the annual figure is the additional number registered in that year,” said the Head of the Bali Transportation Agency I Kadek Mudarta, on Saturday (18/4/2026).
It is known that electric vehicles are no longer fully tax-exempt. The new regulation is contained in Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 11 of 2026 concerning the Basis for Imposition of Motor Vehicle Tax, BBNKB, and Heavy Equipment Tax.
One important point in the regulation is the change in the provisions for tax objects that are excluded. In the previous regulation, electric vehicles were excluded from PKB and BBNKB objects. However, in the latest regulation, electric vehicles are not mentioned as objects excluded from PKB and BBNKB.
