Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Provincial Government (Pemprov Bali) and the local governments in the Denpasar, Badung, and Gianyar regions (Sarbagia) have signed an agreement to collaborate on building 22 strategic projects in Bali.

“Originally 20 projects, with four of them taken over by the central government through the national strategic project (PSN) scheme, but Pemprov Bali together with the regencies/cities has strengthened the steps by adding six new projects, bringing the total to 22 strategic projects that will be implemented gradually,” said Bali Governor Wayan Koster, in a statement in Denpasar, Bali, on Tuesday.

Koster explained that this agreement involves the Sarbagia administrations as the highest regional revenue-generating areas, particularly from the hotel and restaurant tax (PHR) sector.

These regions, with collective awareness, have set aside a portion of their revenues to assist development in other regencies through the special financial assistance (BKK) scheme.

The signing was carried out directly by Bali Governor Wayan Koster, Badung Regent I Wayan Adi Arnawa, Denpasar Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara, and Gianyar Regent I Made Agus Mahayastra in Denpasar on Tuesday.

According to Koster, this momentum serves as an important milestone in reinforcing the government’s commitment to realising fair and equitable development by moving forward together amid various challenges.

“This is real proof that Bali is not only talking about progress, but also about justice,” he said.

The 22 strategic projects to be built by Pemprov Bali together with Sarbagia form a series of priority developments designed to strengthen connectivity, enhance tourism quality, and promote sustainable economic growth until the 2028-2029 period.

Several of these projects are considered highly crucial because they directly impact mobility, economic distribution, and Bali’s future competitiveness.

Among them is the construction of the new Gatot Subroto Barat-Canggu Road, expected to alleviate traffic congestion in densely touristed areas, as well as the Sunset Road-Mahendradatta Road and the Tohpati Underpass, which is a key traffic node in Denpasar City.

Furthermore, the construction of the new Singaraja City Boundary-Mengwitani Road, a key project to break the isolation of North Bali while accelerating economic distribution from south to north.

This project is bolstered by the construction of the Nusa Penida Ring Road in Klungkung Regency, which will elevate the tourism potential of the island areas in a more integrated manner.

In the inter-regional connectivity sector, the construction of the new Kusamba-Padangbai Road and the road connecting Pura Batur-Pura Agung Besakih will serve as a symbol of integration between Bali’s economic and spiritual routes.

“This not only accelerates access but also strengthens Bali’s cultural identity based on the balance between sekala and niskala,” said Koster.

Additionally, the development of integrated port areas such as Sangsit Port, Amed, Celukan Bawang, and Kusamba, projected to become the new backbone of logistics distribution and maritime tourism in Bali, while reducing the burden on the southern regions.

In the tourism and agriculture sectors, the restoration of the sacred area of Pura Agung Besakih and the construction of a paddy processing centre and animal feed factory in Tabanan are also planned as efforts to maintain Bali’s food security.

Pemprov Bali hopes that these various steps will address the issues long felt by the community, from development imbalances between regions, traffic congestion, to infrastructure limitations in North, East, and West Bali.

This agreement also brings new hope that Bali is moving towards a more balanced future, where progress is not only enjoyed in the southern areas but reaches the remotest villages.

“With a stronger foundation of togetherness, Pemprov Bali is optimistic that these 22 strategic projects will not only accelerate development but also strengthen the trust of the Balinese people that the government is present, working, and striving for all people without exception,” said the Bali Governor.
