Bali port to get security gate
DENPASAR, Bali: Police have said they would install a security gate at Gilimanuk Port on the resort island of Bali to prevent explosives or dangerous materials from entering the province, which has twice been attacked by terrorists.
The presence of the security gate at the port connecting Bali and Java would be crucial in relation to the exodus of Idul Fitri travelers, Bali Police spokesman Sr. Comr. A.S. Reniban said.
"It's very important because there is a possibility that crooks or terrorists could make use of the situation amid the Idul Fitri exodus to smuggle dangerous materials onto Bali," he said on Wednesday.
Reniban said all goods would have to pass through the security gate before being loaded onto ferries at the port.
Apart from the security gate, he added, security personnel stationed at the port were also equipped with metal detectors and mirrors for vehicle checks.
These measures are aimed at preventing the possibility of a further terror attack on Bali after the latest bomb blasts on Oct. 1, which killed 23 people, including three suspected suicide bombers, Reniban said. --Antara
