Police say the three foreigners are suspected of producing and distributing pornographic content in Bali

Indonesian police in Bali have arrested two French nationals and an Italian over allegations of producing and distributing pornographic content, in a case that underscores Indonesia’s strict stance on such material.

Three Foreigners Arrested in Bali

Police in Badung, Bali, said the three suspects — a woman and two men — were arrested on suspicion of seeking to profit from pornographic videos and online content. Badung police chief Joseph Edward Purba said the case involves allegations of both production and digital distribution.

Arrests Began at the Airport

According to police statements cited in current reporting, immigration officials arrested a French woman described as a content creator and an Italian on March 13 as they were trying to leave Bali for Thailand. A French man, described as the woman’s manager, was arrested days later in Badung.

Viral Video Triggered the Investigation

Police said the investigation began after a pornographic video circulated widely on social media. Authorities then moved to identify and detain the people allegedly involved in making and spreading the content.

Indonesia’s Laws Are Strict

Indonesia prohibits the production of pornographic material, and police said the suspects could face up to 10 years in prison for production charges and another six years for online distribution. Bali is a major global tourism destination, but national law still applies strictly even there.

Case Comes Amid Wider Scrutiny of Tourist Conduct

The arrests come after a series of recent complaints by Balinese officials about foreign visitor behavior. Earlier cases have included deportations and investigations involving explicit content and disrespectful conduct at local sites, showing that authorities are paying closer attention to tourist-related offenses.

The Bali case highlights how Indonesia continues to enforce morality and content laws firmly, including against foreign nationals in major tourist areas. For Indonesians, it reinforces official concern over behavior seen as violating local law and public norms. For Singaporeans and other regional travelers, it is a reminder that Bali’s relaxed holiday image does not override Indonesia’s criminal laws, especially on content production and online distribution.
