Bali Police Urge Parents to Strengthen Supervision of Children's Social Media Use

Bali Regional Police have urged all parents to tighten supervision of their children’s activities when using social media. Family oversight serves as the main bulwark to ensure the younger generation is not exposed to or ensnared by the negative impacts of the digital world, the police said on Friday, 28 August 2026.

Head of Public Relations of Bali Regional Police, Commissioner Ariasandy, stressed that the rapid development of digital technology presents both convenience and threats if not balanced with mature social control, especially from parents.

“We urge and invite the entire community, particularly parents, not to be negligent in supervising their children while browsing social media,” said Ariasandy.

According to him, negligence in supervision can open the door to dangers for children, ranging from cyberbullying, exposure to immoral content, online fraud, to the risk of exploitation and violence against children.

“The negative impacts of social media can damage the mental health, mindset, and even the future of our children if left without guidance,” he stressed.

Bali Police shared a number of preventive measures that parents can implement at home to supervise their children’s social media use, including:

Open Communication: Building regular dialogue about the limits and dangers of using social media.

Screen Time Limits: Regulating device usage time so that children remain focused on education and real-world social activities.

Periodic Checks: Monitoring children’s social media accounts and applications wisely without neglecting their basic privacy.

Data Privacy Education: Teaching children not to carelessly share personal information, photos, or locations with people they have just met online.

Bali Police affirmed their commitment to continue conducting cyber patrols to maintain the conduciveness of the digital space within the jurisdiction of Bali Police. However, family participation remains the primary key in protecting children from the threat of cybercrime.

“Let us protect our children together, care for one another and shield them from potential dangers in the digital world so as to realise a healthy, wise, and character-driven next generation,” concluded Ariasandy.
