Bali Police Arrest Red Notice Fugitive British National at Ngurah Rai Airport
Denpasar (ANTARA) - Bali Regional Police, together with the National Police’s International Relations Division and Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, arrested a red notice fugitive, a foreign national of British citizenship named Steven Lyons (45), at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport.
Bali Regional Police Chief Inspector General Daniel Adityajaya stated during a press conference in Denpasar on Tuesday that the arrest of the red notice fugitive, who is an international wanted person issued by a most wanted suspect in the Spanish Police, took place on Saturday (28/3/2026) around 11:58 WITA at the International Arrival Terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali.
“The role here is as the leader of a large-scale transnational criminal organisation operating in the field of narcotics trade and money laundering in the regions of Spain and the United Kingdom,” said Daniel.
Bali Police’s Deputy Chief of Criminal Investigation, Commissioner of Police I Gede Adhi Muliawarman, explained that the arrest of SL is part of ‘Operation Armourum’, a joint investigation initiated by the Spanish Civil Guard’s Central Operative Unit and Scottish Police.
In simultaneous operations prior to Steven Lyons’ arrest in Bali, European police had apprehended 33 members of the Lyons syndicate group in Scotland and 12 people in Spain.
Stemming from the arrests in Europe, Steven Lyons was reported by the NCB in Abu Dhabi to be heading to Indonesia.
“Based on intelligence information and international cooperation, both from the police and Immigration from the central level to Ngurah Rai Immigration, we, Bali Regional Police, along with Ngurah Rai Airport Police Resort and Immigration, immediately set up security in the arrival area when the individual arrived,” he said.
“During the examination by the system while undergoing the immigration inspection process at the Immigration checkpoint, the system detected that SL is a subject of an Interpol red notice, and based on intelligence data, SL is suspected to be the leader of an international criminal organisation that oversees money laundering and the management of fictitious companies,” he said.
After being successfully secured, the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office immediately carried out the handover process of the fugitive to the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Police Resort.
Currently, the red notice subject, Steven Lyons, is being held at Bali Regional Police headquarters before being flown to Spain.
