Bali offers free stay for reporters

JAKARTA (JP): If you are a foreign journalist, keep your vacation bags packed at the ready because free accommodation awaits in Bali.

Bali Promo, the promotional body for the island's tourist industry, is offering a free four-night stay at one of its star- rated resorts to foreign journalists with accreditation in Indonesia, either on assignment or a semipermanent basis.

Foreign journalists have been arriving in droves recently in the capital city to cover the latest gripping developments in the nation.

Bali Promo is offering the unique package until the end of July as an opportunity for rest and relaxation, and also allow journalists to see for themselves how the island remains a haven despite the recent turmoil in the country.

"By extending a complimentary stay to the foreign press now working in Indonesia, the Bali tourist industry hopes to show the world press firsthand why Bali continues to rank as one of the safest and most beautiful destinations for tourists," said Luther Barrung, head of the Bali Regional Tourism Office.

The free accommodation includes roundtrip transportation from the airport to hotel in Bali.

Interested journalists should fax a request complete with a copy of their press credentials to Bali Promo (0361) 286284. (mds)
