Bali-Nusa Tenggara Records Indonesia's Highest Economic Growth, Here Are the Drivers
Bali and Nusa Tenggara have now become the regions with the highest economic growth in the first quarter of 2026. This even exceeds the national economic growth of 5.61%. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), economic growth in Bali and Nusa Tenggara was recorded at 7.93% in the first quarter of 2026, a significant jump from the 3.22% growth in the first quarter of 2025. West Nusa Tenggara became the province contributing the largest growth source, at 4.07%. This was followed by Bali with 2.68% economic growth and East Nusa Tenggara at 1.18%. The main sources of growth in the Bali-Nusa Tenggara region are mining, processing industry, and agriculture. However, specifically, BPS Head Amalia Adhininggar Widysanti, during a press conference at the BPS Head Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026), explained the main drivers of the rapid economic growth in the region. “The high growth in the Bali-Nusa Tenggara region is primarily driven by the growth in foreign exports from West Nusa Tenggara province, where foreign exports surged by 827%, supporting NTB’s economic growth in the first quarter of 2026 to reach 13.64%, with NTB’s share of the Bali-Nusa Tenggara economy at 30.47%,” Amalia explained. The second factor is the rapid increase in the metal ore mining sector and basic metal processing industry in NTB. The mining business field in NTB grew 31.80% year-on-year (yoy), and the processing industry also grew 60.25% year-on-year. Another factor, according to the BPS Head, is the relaxation of concentrate exports by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources since 14 October 2025. According to her, this also became a factor driving the increase in processed metal exports in NTB. As is known, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has provided a recommendation for copper concentrate exports to PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT), a business unit of PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMAN), amounting to 480,000 metric tons. The export permit is valid for 6 months, starting from 31 October 2025 to April 2026.
