Bali Museum to Close Until November for Renovation

The Bali Museum will close to tourists starting Monday, 10 August 2026. The museum, located on Jalan Mayor Wisnu in Denpasar, will undergo renovation until the end of November. Head of the Bali Museum Technical Unit, Ida Ayu Made Sutariani, explained that three buildings are being renovated: the Buleleng, Tabanan, and Karangasem buildings. “We will replace the roofs of these buildings with new palm fibre,” she told detikBali on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. According to Dayu, as Sutariani is known, tourists will not be able to visit the Bali Museum during the renovation. However, administration, the library, and research services will remain open. Dayu explained that the Bali Museum renovation must not alter the building materials or design. This is because the museum, initiated by the Assistant Resident of South Bali, W. F. J. Koon, is a suspected cultural heritage site. “So the building materials and dimensions must remain the same,” she said. Dayu added that the Bali Museum has budgeted Rp 5 billion for the renovation. Furthermore, the Bali Museum will present a new theme when it reopens to travellers.
