Bali mounts anti-rabies drive
DENPASAR, Bali: The provincial administration has banned dogs, monkeys, cats and other pets from other provinces in a bid to prevent rabies.
The head of the provincial veterinary service, I Wayan Masudana, told Antara yesterday that his office, in cooperation with other government agencies, had mounted an anti-rabies campaign, centering on marketplaces where people sell and exchange pets.
In a recent operation, the team confiscated a female Boxer dog, which the owner was about to sell for Rp 350,000 (US$170). He said his office later killed and buried the diseased dog.
Eighteen other dogs, which were brought here from Java, have been killed due to disease during the last five months. (tis)
