Bali Man Rapes Karaoke Guide After Drinking Session
A 30-year-old woman with the initials EDW was raped by a man identified as HA (31) in the Yeh Kuning Beach area, Jembrana District, Jembrana Regency, Bali. The assault occurred after the pair had been drinking together.
Jembrana Police Chief AKBP Cheery Sinta Maygrand Simamora stated that the rape took place around 3.30 a.m. local time on Sunday (26/7). HA and several of his friends had initially visited a café in the Mendoyo area where the victim worked as a karaoke guide.
“The perpetrator HA and his friends visited a café in the Mendoyo District area, where the victim works as a karaoke guide,” Simamora said during a press conference at the Jembrana Regency Auditorium on Friday (14/8/2026).
At the café, HA and his group consumed beer while accompanied by the victim. After some time, HA and his friends left the establishment. However, a few minutes later, HA returned alone and invited EDW to continue drinking. The victim then directed him to another café.
“At the second café, both of them continued drinking alcohol. Afterwards, HA offered to take the victim home on his motorbike. Without suspicion, the victim accepted the ride,” Simamora explained.
Instead of taking EDW to her home in the Mendoyo area, HA drove his motorbike towards a secluded area on the edge of Yeh Kuning Beach in Jembrana District. It was in this dimly lit location that HA carried out the assault.
“The suspect got off the motorbike, then pulled the victim’s hand and pushed her body until she fell onto the sand,” Simamora said.
The victim tried to resist when HA forced her to have sexual intercourse, but she was overpowered after the suspect tore her underwear and threatened to kill her if she refused.
“The suspect’s method was to force the victim by pulling her hand, pushing her, and tearing her underwear. The perpetrator also threatened to kill the victim if she did not comply,” Simamora stated.
Following the report, the Jembrana Police Criminal Investigation Unit conducted an investigation. HA was successfully apprehended on Tuesday (4/8) at his workplace in the Mendoyo area without resistance and was subsequently detained at the Jembrana Police Station for further examination.
“We have also seized a number of pieces of evidence, including the clothing worn by the victim during the incident,” he added.
For his actions, HA is charged under Article 6 letter a in conjunction with Article 4 paragraph (2) letter a of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes, which carries a penalty of four years’ imprisonment. He may also be charged under Article 473 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison.
“We urge all levels of society to increase their vigilance and protect themselves from the potential of sexual violence crimes. Please report immediately to the nearest police station or contact the Police call centre at 110,” Simamora concluded.
