Bali Immigration Deports Interpol Fugitive from the UK
Badung, Bali - The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Badung Regency, Bali, deported an Interpol fugitive from the UK with the initials SL to continue legal proceedings in the destination country. “Strict immigration surveillance is the frontline in safeguarding national security from potential foreign threats,” said the Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, in Badung Regency, Bali, on Wednesday. SL was deported via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport on a domestic flight to Jakarta, then continuing to Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The 45-year-old fugitive, suspected of being a mafia boss, was escorted by immigration officers along with the Secretariat of the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia. While waiting for the flight at the airport, his hands were handcuffed to facilitate the escorting process. Previously, Ngurah Rai immigration officers arrested SL at the international arrivals terminal of I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport shortly after landing from Singapore on Saturday (28/3). Ngurah Rai Immigration then carried out the handover process of SL to the I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport Area Resort Police (Polres). Based on data and intelligence coordination, SL is suspected of being the leader of an international criminal organisation. Bugie added that he is alleged to be the mastermind controlling his network members in operations managing fictitious companies and money laundering crimes. “Our system is well integrated, and our officers are experienced in detecting and securing Interpol wanted persons (DPOs),” he added. Immigration, he said, is strengthening coordination with various law enforcement agencies, both domestic and international, to ensure that every foreign person’s crossing is accurately monitored. “Consistent and intelligence-based immigration surveillance is a crucial element in maintaining the country’s security and order from cross-border criminal threats,” he stated.
