In a statement released in Denpasar, he said Rp435 million of the funds were allocated to rehabilitate 31 houses damaged by flooding in Banjar Village. Of these, eight houses were severely damaged, 20 sustained moderate damage, and three suffered minor damage.

To support the recovery of the local economy, Koster noted that the provincial government had allocated Rp15 million to repair business facilities and equipment, including goat pens and chicken coops.

“We have also allocated around Rp726 million in aid to support the restoration of basic public services by repairing clean water installations in 12 locations across several villages,” he said, adding that Rp42 million had been disbursed to help restore places of worship.

Furthermore, the governor said the provincial government had prepared compensation of Rp15 million for each family of the three victims who died in the disaster.

During his visit to Banjar Village, Koster also inspected the impact of the floods on a public elementary school, where floodwaters had nearly reached the ceilings.

After holding discussions with teachers and students, he assured them that the Bali provincial government would promptly take action to support the school’s recovery, including by providing the tools and learning supplies needed for educational activities.

He therefore asked the Banjar Village head and the school principal to compile an inventory of the school’s needs so the government can immediately provide assistance.

As a long-term measure, the governor proposed demolishing the flood-damaged school buildings and reconstructing them as multi-story structures to anticipate possible flooding from the nearby river.

“The Buleleng district head will handle the technical planning. The provincial government will provide funding if needed,” he said.

He also called for river normalization efforts to reduce the risk of future flooding.
