Bali Disaster Management Agency Strengthens AI-Based Early Warning System
The Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is strengthening the use of early warning systems based on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
This was announced by the Head of BPBD Bali, I Gede Agung Teja Bhusana Yadnya, during the second phase of AI Agent Training held by BPBD Bali in Denpasar on Thursday (1/10/2026).
“During extreme weather, incidents can occur in six to seven regencies simultaneously. So far, we have relied on reports from the regencies, while the public often shares information directly first. The speed of this information presents both a challenge and an opportunity that needs to be managed well,” said Tehenda.
Teja emphasised the importance of speed and data validity for public safety during disasters. According to him, the modernisation of the early warning system can no longer be delayed.
“The hope is that through this workshop, AI Agents can assist disaster management officers to focus more on disaster response operations, as the information system is already well-managed,” Teja explained.
The modernisation process is focused on the staff of the Disaster Management Operations Control Centre (Pusdalop) of BPBD Bali.
BPBD Bali is collaborating with BINAR Academy to develop and provide training for this disaster-related AI system. An advisor from BINAR Academy, Nur Rahmah, explained that the use of AI systems can be implemented before a disaster occurs.
“For example, to process risk information and early warnings. During a disaster, this technology can help accelerate information distribution and support decision-making,” said Nur.
“Meanwhile, in the post-disaster stage, AI Agents have the potential to assist in monitoring impacts and damage,” she added.
