A mosque situated along the Jembrana coastline has attracted attention for its distinctive features. Masjid Raudhatul Jannah, more commonly known as Bali Coastal Mosque, has become a new religious tourism icon on the Island of Gods thanks to its complete hajj simulation facilities featuring a Ka’bah miniature.

Located in Banjar Rening, Cupel Village, Negara District, the mosque stands on a 1-hectare plot. Its position directly on the shoreline offers worshippers and visitors mesmerising views of the cliffs and sunset.

Ahmad Arif Darmawan, chairman of Raudhatul Jannah Mosque’s management and youth leader, explained that the mosque has actually existed since 1961. However, management decided to construct a new building on donated land from 2019 to accommodate more comfortable worship activities.

“The old mosque now serves as an assembly hall and learning space. For this new mosque, the foundation stone was laid in 2019, but construction halted due to COVID-19 before resuming in 2023 thanks to donor support,” Arif told detikBali on Thursday (26 February 2026).

Despite its modern design, the two-storey mosque with a capacity of 600-700 people maintains local identity. It features gebyok doors and Balinese carved ornaments on the upper trim and interior. “We preserve Balinese architecture to integrate with the surrounding environment,” he added.

Principal Hajj Simulation Facilities in Bali

The mosque’s main advantage is a 40-are hajj simulation training area equipped with a 4 x 5 metre Ka’bah miniature. This facility is claimed to be the only one currently available in Bali. Development of the training area and finishing of the mosque received Rp 1.5 billion in funding support from the central Hajj Financial Management Board (BPKH).

“It was only inaugurated two weeks ago, but has already been used three times for hajj training. Participants came from the Religious Affairs Ministry and umrah travel companies. Some even travelled from outside Bali,” Arif said.

Although the building is physically ready for use, Arif noted that construction progress remains incomplete. Several details such as the minaret, sound system, and lighting are still being refined.

Notably, Bali Coastal Mosque is planned to utilise renewable energy sources. “We plan to use solar power for electricity,” he explained.

For visitors arriving in the late afternoon, the mosque offers a peaceful atmosphere on the cliff edge overlooking the coastline. Its location directly adjacent to the beach allows worshippers to enjoy the sunset panorama.

“The sunset in the late afternoon is truly beautiful. Sitting here and watching that view is really wonderful,” he concluded.
